Training Course T4

From the 06th to the 08th of March, 2019, ISJ Alba has carried out the fourth teacher training course activity, which was attended by teachers from the six partner schools in the Project “Learning Together” (contract no. 2018-EY-PICR-R1-0006):

  1. “Avram Iancu” Secondary School (Unirea, Alba county)

  2. “Simion Balint” Secondary School (RoÈ™ia Montană) / “CloÈ™ca” Secondary School Structure (CărpiniÈ™, Alba county)

  3. “Simion Lazăr” Secondary School (Lunca MureÈ™ului, Alba county)

  4. “Ștefan cel Mare” Secondary School (Cetatea de Baltă, Alba county)

  5. Jidvei Technological High School (Alba county)

  6. “Simion BărnuÈ›iu” Secondary School (Blaj-Tiur) / “Ion Micu Moldovan” Secondary School Structure (Blaj, Alba county)

This project is being funded with 174.426 Euros, through the programme “Education, Scholarships, Apprenticeship and the young people’s Entrepreneurship in Romania”, through the SEE grants, the financial mechanism 2014-2021 and it targets to:

  • training teachers in areas such as: promoting an inclusive school and teaching in a multicultural environment, democracy, tolerance and anti-discrimination

  • organising various awareness raising and outreach activities for the Romany and non-Romany parents

  • organising extracurricular activities for the Romany and non-Romany children, in order to raise the inclusion rate and their social competence.

The training of the 72 academic staff from the partner schools has targeted “All Equal – All Different. The Rights of Man/Child, Tolerance, Anti-discrimination” and was provided by a team of experts from Romania. During the plenary sessions and the workshops, the teachers explored active-participative methods, being put in various situations in which they had to identify themselves with the hardships and difficulties the parents or children might go through, challenges such as their belonging to another culture or ethnic identity and the various obstacles that appear because of them. Building emphatic and open to dialogue characters has a strong impact upon the students, as well as the society itself.

The General School Inspector, Mrs. Eugenia-Marcela DărămuÈ™, states that: “The challenges and strategies explored by the academic staff during this training session will help them encourage the acceptance and tolerance of diversity in the school environment, as a real ability which has been acquired by ALL the people who are part of the education process – children, teachers and parents.”

        The theme of this course was topical, ranging from the ideal / ideological framework of equality and the fight against discrimination (represented by the legislation and the institutional framework of human and child rights) to the psychological and behavioral root of discrimination. In an interactive form we discussed perceptions, mental and cultural conditioning and stereotypes. We have realized how much our behavior and first impressions, prejudices and stereotypes influence us and we have experienced inspirational ways of combating, positively modeling, our natural tendency to stereotype. "
